Interview: 5+5 Q & A with Photographer & Niume Blogger April Bryant

To call April Bryant a photographer is akin to calling Michaelango a painter. Yes, she IS a photographer but she is more than that – she is truly an artist. She is the photographer than many of us aspire to be but fall just short. April started her photographic journey as a child, embracing it and learning all aspects of the craft – from composing a photograph to developing and printing. She worked in a darkroom as a teen and has taken that knowledge into the digital age becoming a skilled…

Fantasy Frost

Frozen Fog in East Tennessee earlier this week! Everything was covered in spiky ice crystals. It was a magical winter wonderland! Elegant - #RosesOpenWeekend by Adriano

My submission for #RosesOpenWeekend by Adriano :)“Elegance is a glowing inner peace. Grace is an ability to give as well as to receive and be thankful. Mystery is a hidden laugh always ready to surface! Glamour only radiates if there is a sublime courage & bravery within: glamour is like the moon; it only shines because the sun is there.” ―C. Coffee Bean Tree?

“But frost, like the crystallized dreams of autumn, began to coat the clearing with its sugar glaze.” ―Victoria Steele LogueWhen I was out in the frozen fog frost we had in East Tennessee recently, I spotted this shot. The white, spiky frost contrasted so nicely with the brown, earthy colors, designs and lines so well I just couldn't resist. Is it a coffee bean tree? No. I'm sure those of you who live in areas where coffee is grown would know quickly that it wasn't. It is actually what is…

"Chilly" Pepper

Hot cayenne pepper on a cold winter morning.Had a few peppers that didn't get harvested, but they made lovely decorations in a frosty frozen fog garden.__________________________April Bryant is the author of The Simple Guide to Great Photography (available on Amazon), a member of the US Press Association, a Getty Images photographer, and owns and operates HoiPolloiPhotography.com and AprilBryant.com. My Greatest Fear - #RosesOpenWeekend by Adriano

So, I'm not exactly a spider fan, but sometimes the photographer side over-rides the screaming-girlie side and I make a spider photo. Before you ask, yes, it really was that big because that is an average sized rose bloom (about the size of a baseball). I was shooting with the telephoto, then I really got brave and changed to the 60mm f/2.8 prime lens to get the details.I looked up what kind of spider it was, but now cannot find the ID (you spider guys, jump in here and let me know). The…

How to Add Magic to Your Images Using Light

Light, the magic ingredient for creating amazing images, whether it be direct or indirect, natural or studio. Make it your friend and learn to create in harmony with it and you will be greatly rewarded for your efforts. After all, photography is the study of light. With the right lighting, real or not, images come to life, and we get that little touch of magic. That little something extra that makes our images special is often all about the light.Sometimes we don't think of light as a subject…

With Love

“Never loan your heart to hatred; it pays you back with self-destruction. Majority of people living are not aware that anger is an acid that destroys its own container.” ―Israelmore AyivorMay your hearts be filled with love! ❤️Small slice of life in East Tennessee.____________________________April Bryant is the author of The Simple Guide to Great Photography (available on Amazon), a member of the US Press Association, a Getty Images photographer, and owns and operates…

Home

This is the dirt road that goes through the family farm in east Tennessee, covered with snow at golden hour. I've ridden my bike through there a million times, played among those trees, and ridden my horse in the pasture. It's a special place to me, it's home.April Bryant is the author of The Simple Guide to Great Photography (available on Amazon), a member of the US Press Association, a Getty Images photographer, and owns and operates HoiPolloiPhotography.com and AprilBryant.com. 8 Tips for Spring Photo Cleaning

Ok, I'll admit that I am not a meticulous housekeeper or cleaner. I am not a neat freak, wholly aside from camera gear, but sometimes I start to notice things in photos that trip my little OCD switch. In the effort of informing, because sometimes it's things we don't see for ourselves, I wanted to throw out some suggestions for "neatening up" in a photography frame of mind.1 - HELP PEOPLE LOOK THEIR BESTAs photographers we sometimes forget to actually "look" at what we are photographing. We…

Fond Memories

Fond memories of times gone by, precious treasures of small moments, that when put together, make up our lifetime. This is what happens when a photographer gets bored and it's cold and gray and windy outside. Still life happens! Set this up in the corner of the room and turned out all the lights.Aperture set to f/22 for a longer exposure time to gather light on the trunk, and to create a bit of sparkle from the candle flames. ISO 200, 2.8 second exposure, shot with 24-70mm f/2.8 lens at…
