Night Road. Squeezed one more in for 2012. . . and worth it. Real tear jerker but I love Kristin Hannah's books. People seem real and not cartoons. This story focuses on a set of twins and their best friend. One night near graduation changes their lives and the impact is felt for years after. Great read! I'm not giving anything away!
Night Road by Kristin Hannah, next on my reading list
Kristin Hannah is probably my favorite author. She can engross me in any story she writes "Night Road" included. I love how you can read this story and not decide which character you feel more for. A good book plays with your emotions and Night Road does just that. PS- it's Kristin Hannah so take out tissues- you have warned
Night Road by Kristin Hannah, one of my most favorite books of all time. The book was so interesting I didn't put it down and had it finished in less than two days. #highlyrecommend
For eighteen years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows — her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable. Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for a good life and out of harm’s way. But senior year of high school teste them all, an on a hot summer’s night, one bad decision will change the course of all their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget...or the courage to forgive. Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best

Corrie Ten Boom stood naked with her older sister Betsie, watching a concentration camp matron beating a prisoner."Oh, the poor woman," Corrie cried."Yes. May God forgive her," Betsie replied. And, once again, Corrie realized that it was for the souls of the brutal Nazi guards that her sister prayed. Here is a book aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian spinster whose life was transformed by it.

One of my favorite books and a great movie too!
Kathryn Stockett shares with us that she felt presumptuous as a Southern white woman trying to write in the voice of a Southern black maid. I don't know if she achieved her goal, but I do know that her characters are alive and vibrant and poignant and courageous. They speak in the voice of the indomitable Southern woman and this is a very, very good book. Yes, it made a great movie.
Loved the book! I am just getting ready to watch the movie tonight and thought I would add it to my list of books worth reading.
Jackson, Mississippi, in the early 1960s is a city of tradition. Silver is used at bridge-club luncheons, pieces polished to perfection by black maids who “yes, ma’am,” and “no, ma’am,” to the young white ladies who order the days. This is the world Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan enters when she graduates from Ole Miss and returns to the family plantation, but it is a world that, to her, seems ripe for change. As she observes her friend Elizabeth rudely interact with Aibileen, the gentle black woman who is practically raising Elizabeth’s two-year-old daughter, Mae Mobley, Skeeter latches ontothe idea of writing the story of such fraught domestic relations from the help’s point of view. With the reluctant assistance of Aibileen’s feisty friend, Minny, Skeeter manages to interview a dozen of the city’s maids, and the book, when it is finally published, rocks Jackson’s world in unimaginable ways. With pitch-perfect tone and an unerring facility for character and setting, Stockett’s richly accomplished debut novel inventively explores the unspoken ways in which the nascent civil rights and feminist movements threatened the southern status quo. Look for the forthcoming movie to generate keen interest in Stockett’s luminous portrait of friendship, loyalty, courage, and redemption. --Carol Haggas
The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I read this before seeing the movie, which was also good. Great book to discuss in book clubs. Great characters too.

One of my favorite books! Such a sad story though
Saddest book I've ever read
A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive by Dave Pelzer...This is the most difficult book to read! It's about the horrific child abuse that David endured....NO CHILD should have to endure this abuse! WARNING: This isn't for the squemish.it is a REVOLTING account. Please be aware!
A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer Very troubling story worth reading...then you want to read "The Lost Boy" and "A Man Named Dave" because you just need to know how the boy survives such abuse. This book chronicles the unforgettable account of one of the most severe child abuse cases in California history. It is the story of Dave Pelzer, who was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games--games that left him nearly dead. He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him a son, but a slave; and no longer a boy, but an "it." Dave's bed was an old army cot in the basement, and his clothes were torn and raunchy. When his mother allowed him the luxury of food, it was nothing more than spoiled scraps that even the dogs refused to eat. The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare. He had nothing or no one to turn to, but his dreams kept him alive--dreams of someone taking care of him, loving him and calling him their son.
