When soldier dogs die, their memorial services will rip your heart out. Their bowls are placed upside down, to symbolize that they won’t need them anymore. Their collars and leashes are hung up in remembrance of the dog. And if the memorial is at a kennel, the dog’s kennel door is left open, indicating the dog will not be returning home. The handler, or someone who can handle the heartbreaking duty, reads a poem called Guardians of the Night. I can’t even think about it without tearing up.

Remarkable, Miniature Pencil-Tip Sculptures Washington-based artist Diem Chau, who previously created a wonderful set of crayon sculptures, presents another set of miniature work fashioned from the tips of pencils. Chau’s tiny, fragile works are “delicate vignettes of fleeting memory, gesture and form” and explores “moments forgotten and faded, or too brief to retain”.
These skillful miniature sculptures are the work of Diem Chau, an American artist who left Vietnam as a refugee in 1986. Bored Panda

When you’re working in an office with tiny workspaces and when you’re surrounded by nothing but concrete walls and artificial lights, even the slightest element that doesn’t fall into the same category would be like a breath of fresh air. This office features a very nice balance between natural and artificial elements. The giant fish tank separates the work spaces and provides the workers with something and relaxing to look at.

Hawaiian Islands. One of my favorite places.
Pacific Island National Parks
The Hawaiian Islands are a chain of massive volcanoes that stretch over 1,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean. Though some of these volcanoes reach nearly 14,000 feet above sea level, more of their height lies under the ocean's surface. For example, Mauna Kea is about 32,000 feet from the mountain's base to the summit.

“Lunch atop a Skyscraper" is a world famous photo, made during the construction of the GE Building in the Rockefeller Center on September 29, 1932.
Lunch atop a Skyscraper is one of the most recognizable photos of the 20th century. The 1932 photo shows 11 construction workers taking a lunch break on a girder 850 feet above New York City. A second photo from the same shoot shows four of the men sleeping on the beam. The images are iconic and epic, but may not be as candid as they seem. The photos were reportedly staged as part of a promotional effort for the Rockefeller Center.

I want to walk on a tight rope, but not across the grand canyon. Aerialist Nik Wallenda walks a 2-inch-thick steel cable taking him a quarter mile over the Little Colorado River Gorge, Ariz., June 23, 2013. The daredevil successfully traversed the tightrope strung 1,500 feet above the chasm near the Grand Canyon in just more than 22 minutes. (Tiffany Brown/Discovery Channel/AP Photo)

It is relatively rare to spot the massive marine creature known as the whale in portions of our waters on a regular basis. They are majestic and intimidating at the same time because of their size. Children admire their behavior as some are held in captivity at water parks as a means of entertainment. In 2010, a killer whale turned on its trainer a...
