The Baychimo - "The Arctic Ghost Ship" - was built in Sweden in 1911. In October of 1931 it set out with a cargo hold full of fur. Twice the ship became trapped in ice and the crew was forced to abandon it for safety reasons. When a blizzard struck after the second abandonment, the ship vanished and was presumed sunk, though there have been sightings of it over the years, the last being in 1969. In spite of efforts to find it, the Baychimo's fate remains a mystery to this day.

This awesome German ship was originally built in 1906 at Bremen and operated throughout the North and Baltic Seas until being retired in 1986. She was then converted into a three masted barque and was re-launched in 1988 as the "Alexander von Humboldt".
