Toni Braxton on Living with Lupus: Grammy-winning recording artist Toni Braxton opens up about her diagnosis of lupus, a mysterious, autoimmune disorder that attacks a wide range of body parts, from joints and skin to the brain, blood vessels, kidneys and other vital organs.
I am 15 years old, and was diagnosed with SLE in December 2014. It is in my brain, heart, blood, lungs, liver, and its starting in my kidneys as it is really aggressive. I was given steroids, IVIG, and many more treatments, but they didn't work. Chemotherapy was my last option, so I took it. There will be 6 high doses of chemo. I am on round 2, and have lost all my hair, and my stomach is paralyzed, but I wont give up! Till I am free!! Lupus is horrible!! We need a cure! ~Ana
The ANA Blood Test: "The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is ordered to help screen for autoimmune disorders and is most often used as one of the tests to diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Depending on the person's symptoms and the suspected diagnosis, ANA may be ordered along with one or more other autoantibody tests." (from #Lupus and Me FB - click for more)
