Chepstow Castle, Wales, built in 1067. Cas-gwent (in Welsh) located in Chepstow, Monmouthshire in Wales, on top of cliffs overlooking the River Wye, is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. Its construction was begun under the instruction of the Norman Lord William fitzOsbern, soon made Earl of Hereford, from 1067, and it was the southernmost of a chain of castles built along the English–Welsh border.

Ancient oaks and pines from 5,000-year-old forest rise as Welsh beach is washed away - Rising from the beach in a surreal seascape, the remains of these ancient trees have been revealed by the storms. Thought to date back to the Bronze Age, the shin-high stumps became visible for the first time when the peat which once covered them was washed away in torrential rain and waves pounding the shore. Now they stud the beach near the village of Borth, Ceredigion, Mid Wales –

The mysteries of the sea... Remains of 5,000 year old forest emerges in Wales after storms wash away the sea front.
The recent huge storms and gale force winds have stripped away much of the sand from stretches of the beach between Borth and Ynyslas on the west wales coast north of Aberystwyth, revealing ancients forests, with the remains of oak trees dating back to the Bronze Age, 6,000 years ago. The ancient remains are said by some to be the origins of the legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod, a mythical kingdom now submerged under the waters of Cardigan Bay

Full moon with a light halo, field of stars in the almost clear night sky behind the standing stones within Portugal's mountain range of Castelo de Vide and Marvao. Research by DdO:) - http://www.pinterest.com/DianaDeeOsborne/sky-lights/ - A DOLMEN is a megalithic TOMB with a large flat stone laid on upright ones, found chiefly in Britain and France. Stonehenge like. For tourists, this one is lit with red and blue lights at night sometimes. Path of artificial light along grasses.
Dolmen around Castelo de Vide, Portugal. -- I love how the photographer has used a flashlight (I think) to make a light path.
Many prehistoric findings have been done around Castelo de Vide, Montemor-o-Nove, Évora, and Monsaraz, such as menhirs and dolmen Portugal. These megalithic tombs have been placed between 4000 and 2000 B.C.. The so-called dolmen Portugal consists of several upright stones with horizontal capstones. They were used as collective graves and, apart from bodies, people also buried art objects, weapons, and tools here.

Designed from Memory Sketches of the Mediterranean: Portmeirion, North Wales (UK) - Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion’s designer, denied repeated claims that the design was based on the town of Portofino, Italy. He stated only that he wanted to pay tribute to the atmosphere of the Mediterranean.
