BTA was given the opportunity to create a modern hillside garden on a very unique site perched on the west facing hills above the east bay city of Berkeley. Located on a gently sloping knoll, surrounded by 20 acres of Pinot Noir vineyards, this new Sonoma County Home has been designed to provide casual indoor-outdoor living spaces that take full advantage of the magnificent wine-country site. In plan, the house is an elongated ‘T’, creating a relatively opaque and private entry courtyard on the north side. A native oak woodland in the Santa Lucia Preserve embraces a new home by Sagan Piechota Architecture. Concealed in the woods, yet with clear distant views to the hills beyond, this flipped plan home puts the main living in the trees on the eastern exposure.
