Community Commutes Day encouraged employees to try public transit, biking, walking, or carpooling to work.

To inspire energy-saving behaviors, local governments engage residents, hold contests, try games

Nearly two-thirds of behavior-based programs for saving energy involve in-person contact with residents, such as home energy audits, according to a new survey of 50 such programs nationwide. As energy efficiency programs increasingly target behavior, local governments are taking diverse approaches.

Our new guide helps local government staff take steps to protect residents from the impacts of climate change (such as wildfires and heat waves).

Our program to encourage and recognize Green & Healthy events and meetings was selected for a National Association of Counties Achievement Award. This is primarily an internal program for employee-planned events or events in county buildings, and we encourage others to use a similar model. Healthy food and physical activity can increase engagement at your meetings, and waste reduction at large events makes a big difference for our environment!

Silver Circle Award winner! Alameda County's campaign to celebrate county employees who plan green & healthy events has been recognized by the City-County Communications & Marketing Association’s annual Savvy Awards. The Green & Healthy Awards was awarded second place for Go Green Communication Program Efforts, Population: 101,000+. The judges called it a "real winner for employees and residents!" Over 9200 people attended resource-/health-conscious events as a result of the campaign.
