Tibor Rubin was a Hungarian-born Jewish soldier who survived a Chinese prison camp, a Nazi concentration camp, single-handedly defended a hill against the North Korean army TWICE, was nominated for the Medal of Honor four times, received it once, and lived to tell the tale. In the process he single-handedly saved the lives of 40 of his fellow comrades by breaking out of a hardcore Chinese POW camp, raiding their barracks and stores for food and medical equipment
Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz was a German attache who warned the Danish Jews about their intended deportation in 1943. It is estimated that he prevented the deportation of 95% of Denmark's Jews in the resulting rescue of the Danish Jews.
Miriam Steiner plays with her doll shortly before her arrest, She was sent to Stara Gradiska concentration camp. Later, she and her family joined Italian partisans. Her book, "Soldier with Golden Buttons" is used to teach a child's point-of-view of the war.
