An adorable polar bear cub named Nanook had fun at its first birthday party at a zoo in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Tuesday. Accompanied by its mother Lara, Nanook helped itself to specially-made fruit ice cakes and received a toy ball as a surprise gift prepared for the birthday bear.

Stunning photos have captured a heart-melting moment of newborn iguanas eating small pieces of lettuce. Turkey's Bursa Zoo welcomed 47 hatchlings as a pair of iguanas gave birth to their babies. The newborn babies were held in a special glass box for protection and fed with carrots and lettuce by zoo staff.

Her rescuer, Christina, and her husband Michael have spent two and a half years and $10,000 raising little Thumbelina.
To celebrate Halloween, the Blair Drummond Safari Park in central Scotland prepared carved pumpkins for the animals. The curious creatures, which include ring rail lemurs, meerkats and lions, approached the carved pumpkins with interest and began to play with them. Each dog featured in the calendar suffers from a disability, which means they cannot use their back legs to walk and have to rely on specially-made wheelchairs to get around.
Pigs unleashed to root out poisonous acorns A total of around 600 pigs have begun their annual roam around the UK's New Forest for the start of the Pannage season. The animals are released to consume fallen acorns and other nuts which are poisonous in large quantities to horses and cattle. The practice dates back to the time of William the Conqueror, who founded New Forest in 1079 as pigs are not poisoned by acorns because they spit out the toxic skins.
