https://flic.kr/p/DiVRi1 | Kodachrome on Cajon | SD45u 5402 was one of the first units to get the ill-fated SPSF merger scheme in 1985. Here it leads an eastbound shooter over Cajon Pass near the old station site of Alray a year later. Santa Fe painted over 300 units in this scheme before the merger was denied. Railroaders being what they are with acronyms and initials, somebody quickly declared that SPSF stood for Shouldn't Paint So Fast.

https://flic.kr/p/Dczxsy | 4th of July Treat | Fresh out the paint booth at Cleburne, Santa Fe SD45-2 5637 leads a freight towards Gainesville with downtown Ft Worth in the background. He's in full dyno approaching the Trinity River bridge about 1/4 mile ahead of him. As soon as he gets across the bridge and the power clears the diamond at Tower 60, he'll throttle up for the pull to Saginaw on the north side of Ft Worth.

This very chilly scene was photographed 47 years ago on December 21, 1968. No. 23 is already late and will be almost a day late by the time it reaches Los Angeles. Note the odd placement of the TOFC behind the engine consist and ahead of a deadheading F7B. Photo by Joe McMillan.

https://flic.kr/p/B5cq4K | Curtis Hill Stacks | Before Curtis Hill west of Waynoka, OK was double tracked, trains on the Santa Fe generally ran in fleets in one direction or another. October 1, 1994 was no different and towards the end of the afternoon this great looking westbound showed up at Quinlan. 676 is almost certainly on its first trip as it's spotless. The track going off to the right is the former mainline now used as a siding. It winds around the hill that the main cuts…
