12 Years A Slave - In a period of exceptional films released within the last 6 months. I can honestly say that this is better than all of them. Gravity possibly was a better cinematic experience but on the film alone this takes the biscuit. Go watch it.

"12 Years a Slave" is a true story, based on a book by Solomon Northrup. This book was made into a feature film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender. It is nominated for multiple Academy Awards this year, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Feature Film. <-- this was a stunning movie. I don't think that Hollywood has ever done such a true representation of what slavery was really like.

Cinema Paradiso (1988) Winner of the 1989 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, this film is about a successful film director who, in flashbacks, remembers his childhood when he developed a friendship with a projectionist at a local film theatre. The projectionist serves as a father figure to the young boy and teaches him about the magic of film. This film is a celebration of the movies and they can touch our lives.

Although they each are presented with a real opportunity to leave the village, the sisters choose to stay with their father, to serve to him and their church. After some years, a French woman refugee, Babette, arrives at their door, begs them to take her in, and commits herself to work for them as maid/housekeeper/cook. Sometime after their father dies, the sisters decide to hold a dinner to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. Babette experiences unexpected good fortune and implores the sisters to allow her to take charge of the preparation of the meal. Although they are secretly concerned about what Babette, a Catholic and a foreigner, might do, the sisters allow her to go ahead. Babette then prepares.. Its a classic to see...
