Australia Activities For Kids – Danya Banya

We love Australia! We might be slightly biased, (as Sydney, Australia is where we call home), but I believe Australia is an absolutely fascinating place. We have amazing animals, stunning native flora, some pretty cool buildings and landmarks, all wrapped up in a quirky larrikan culture. You’ll find below some of our Australian art, craft, recipe and activity ideas. I’ve also included a couple of our ideas that use particularly Aussie materials, like gumnuts and magpie feathers. We’ve found…

48 Spooktacularly Funny Halloween Jokes for Kids – Danya Banya

Do you know about my obsession with (awesomely funny) lame dad jokes? You know – the sort of jokes that make everyone laugh out loud, whilst simultaneously rolling their eyes? I love them! So I’ve gathered 48 of my favourite, kid-friendly, spooky jokes. I originally collated this list for JJ’s Spooky Sixth birthday party. But now that Halloween is coming up, I’m pulling it out again, to add a few jokes to JJ’s lunchbox. Nothing like a ghoulish lunchtime giggle! …

DIY Rustic Wood Slice Birthday Calendar Mobile – Danya Banya

I made these lovely wood slice calendar mobiles as Christmas gifts one year. I made three – one for our home, and two sets for grandparents. I love how they turned out! So rustic and natural, and yet so personal at the same time. I know they’ll be treasured for years to come. I used (affiliate links): birch wood slices – I bought mine handcut from Rachael’s Scraps on Etsy. (Or it looks like there are similar ones …

Balloon decorating: process art for kids – Danya Banya

Simple balloon decorating process art idea for toddlers and preschoolers. Sometimes the simplest activities are the best! My daughter Bee was a 2.5 year old toddler when we did this, and she had a blast decorating her balloons, and then hanging them up in our backyard to dry. Although, even when they’d dried she didn’t want to take them down, so they doubled as colourful backyard decorations for while there! We used: balloons small pieces of coloured tissue paper feathers …

Cheese Monsters – Danya Banya

We made these cute little Cheese Monsters for my nephew’s 5th birthday party. Healthy party food ftw! A sharp knife (a filleting knife is perfect), a few googly eyes in different sizes, some non-toxic kids PVA glue, a tiny bit of wool for hair and a couple of packets of mini Babybel cheeses all come together to make a plate of monsterlicious treats. This was a team effort. JJ (3 years and 9 months) unwrapped all the cheeses and removed …

Shell Spiral: Collaborative land art at the beach – Danya Banya

Create land art at the beach, using nature! We were lucky enough to travel around New Zealand’s North Island by campervan recently. So much fun! Today I wanted to share with you our morning at this little beach on The Coromandel (a beautiful peninsula towards the north). The autumn weather that was sunny, but cool – just the sort of weather that encourages leisurely strolling along the beach, hand in hand…. But of course, leisurely strolling is more fun for …
