"Split Rock Lighthouse under an Iridescent Sky"

The night before the January full moon, we enjoyed some night photography at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. The iridescence in the clouds occurs when the moonlight is scattered or bent as it passes through ice crystals in the clouds. The sky created an excellent mood during the photo shoot.
"Golden Hour at Split Rock Lighthouse"
As the sun sank toward the horizon, Split Rock Lighthouse was bathed in its magic light, while gentle waves lapped at Lake Superior's shores. Just a short drive up the shore from Duluth, Minnesota, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is a favorite destination for many visitors and locals. "October Moods on Lake Superior"
Exploring along Lake Superior's shoreline gives one a great appreciation of her power and moods. There has been some impressive wave action this month. "Split Rock Lighthouse Illumination"

Split Rock Lighthouse illuminates Lake Superior’s North Shore at twilight. The lighthouse was built following the fateful Mataafa Storm of 1905, in which 29 ships were lost. It guided ships from 1910 through 1969, at which time it was retired and added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a rare occurrence to witness the brilliant beacon of this iconic lighthouse.
"Icy Sea Stack at Tettegouche State Park"

Spray from Lake Superior's big waves on subzero days freeze on everything they touch, creating fantastic ice sculptures. It's amazing that the trees atop the sea stack and along the shore can endure the harsh conditions. This sea stack used to be connected to the mainland with the iconic stone arch until the arch crumbled into the lake in 2010. Tettegouche State Park, Minnesota, Lake Superior.
