Marlena & her husband befriend Barluzzo, an old sage who takes the couple under his wing and initiates them in the age-old traditions of Tuscan life: he helps them build a traditional brick oven in the garden; in autumn he wakes them at dawn to gather chestnuts and porcini mushrooms, and at the onset of winter he takes them to pull grapes from the vines and beat olives from the trees. Beautifully written and richly seasoned with mouth-watering recipes of the region.

Turn a closet into a reading nook.. This is so cute :)
Closet Reading Nooks, The Doors, Closet Spaces, Ideas, Houses, Closet Doors, Closets, Reading Room, Kid
While adorable, this idea is obviously for people with bigger houses than mine. Because we have too LITTLE closet space, not extras . . . Put molding around a closet, remove the door, add lights and comfy seat with pillows to make a unique and special reading nook.
I love the idea of a closet reading nook, but in what world would I give up closet space? Hmm.
LOVE THIS IDEA...put molding around a like molding even on regular closet door closet, remove the door, add lights and comfy seat with pillows to make a unique and special reading nook.
Turn a walk-through or small hall closet space into a reading room. Not a bad idea if a small library is all you can manage.
Put moulding around a closet, remove the door; add lights and comfy seat with pillows- a unique and special reading nook! - Refer to Young House Love for a closet/reading nook combo...I did this in my basement under the stairs. My kids love it!

The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less #goodreads #books #recommendations www.amplifyhappinessnow.com
"The Paradox of Choice" by Barry Schwartz (a favorite nonfiction book)
In the spirit of Alvin Tofflers' Future Shock, a social critique of our obsession with choice, and how it contributes to anxiety, dissatisfaction and regret. Whether were buying a pair of jeans, ordering a cup of coffee, selecting a long-distance carrier, applying to college, choosing a doctor, or setting up a 401(k), everyday decisions - both big and small - have become increasingly complex due to the overwhelming abundance of choice with which we are presented. We assume that more choice means better options and greater satisfaction. But beware of excessive choice: choice overload can make you question the decisions you make before you even make them, it can set you up for unrealistically high expectations, and it can make you blame yourself for any and all failures. In the long run, this can lead to decision-making paralysis, anxiety, and perpetual stress. And, in a culture that tells us that there is no excuse for falling short of perfection when your options are limitless, too much choice can lead to clinical depression. In The Paradox of Choice, Barry Schwartz explains at what point choice - the hallmark of individual freedom and self-determination that we so cherish - becomes detrimental to our psychological and emotional well-being. In accessible, engaging, and anecdotal prose, Schwartz shows how the dramatic explosion in choice--from the mundane to the profound challenges of balancing career, family, and individual needs--has paradoxically become a problem instead of a solution. Schwartz also shows how our obsession with choice encourages us to seek that which makes us feel worse. ©2004 Barry Schwartz (P)2010 Audible, Inc.

You cannot take away my positivity and the internal light that shines in my spirit that angers you so much. You can't steal it from me, you can't put it out no matter how hard you keep trying to. You don't understand that you are causing the blackness of night that you harbor within yourself with your jealousy. Your jealousy is your poison, it's toxic.

Winner of the 2011 Man Booker Prize By an acclaimed writer at the height of his powers, The Sense of an Ending extends a streak of extraordinary books that began with the best-selling Arthur & George and continued with Nothing to Be Frightened Of and, most recently, Pulse. This intense new novel follows a middle-aged man as he contends with a past he has never much thought about—until his closest childhood friends return with a vengeance, one of them from the grave, another maddeningly present. Tony Webster thought he’d left all this behind as he built a life for himself, and by now his marriage and family and career have fallen into an amicable divorce and retirement. But he is then presented with a mysterious legacy that obliges him to reconsider a variety of things he thought he’d understood all along, and to revise his estimation of his own nature and place in the world. A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single sitting, with stunning psychological and emotional depth and sophistication, The Sense of an Ending is a brilliant new chapter in Julian Barnes’s oeuvre. About the Author Julian Barnes’s honors include the Somerset Maugham Award, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, and the E. M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 2004 he was named Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. He lives in London. www.julianbarnes.com

The Hobbit, Or, There and Back Again (Book) : Tolkien, J. R. R. : The adventures of the well-to-do hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who lived happily in his comfortable home until a wandering wizard granted his wish. A new edition to Tolkien's classic, the prelude to the Lord of the Rings saga, is available just in time for "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, " set for release in theaters in December 2002. Illustrations. In this fantasy, a prelude to The Lord of the Rings, the reader meets Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, in a land filled with dwarfs, elves, goblins, and dragons. The Greatest Fantasy Epic of our Time, Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in quiet comfort. But the wizard Gandalf came along with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their quest, facing evil orcs, savage wolves, giant spiders, and worse unknown dangers. Finally, it was Bilbo-alone and unaided-who had to confront the great dragon Smaug, the terror of an entire countryside . . . This stirring adventure fantasy begins the tale of the hobbits that was continued by J.R.R. Tolkien in his bestselling epic The Lord of the Rings.

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. so worth reading, very historically accurate, i learned a great deal about the war but most importantly how humans can be so cruel to one another yet the spirit of those tortured could endure so much more than one can imagine.
