Here are a few that I think you should know.... ➡️ You don’t have to be induced. You can go past 40 weeks. ➡️ No you don’t have to have pitocin to get things going. Movement is better than pitocin. ➡️ No you don’t have to be in lathotomy position to give birth. Yes you can push how you want. ➡️ You don’t have to have a cesarean just because you have a big baby. Learn your rights when it comes to birth, because just because there is a hospital policy, doesn’t mean it’s law.
A topic that I’m very passionate about is that whoever is in your birth space, is your choice! For me, this means that every woman has the right to decide who they want present during their birth. This includes everything from family and friends to midwives and doctors. And yes, this also includes your mother in law! Your birth space should be a safe haven and the people who are present should make sure that this environment is maintained.
OMG, Yes, this! How many of you have done the unthinkable, or had it done to you? My sister once patted a lady on her belly and asked when she was due..... The lady said, "I'm not pregnant, just fat!" 😱 RULE 1: Don't touch uninvited. RULE 2: Don't ask unless she brings up being pregnant. RULE 3: If she is pregnant, tell her she looks terrific. Anyone got a good story about asking a woman about being pregnant?
Mama, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. ❤️
I’m in tears right now, I’m so happy. LNM’s team doula and community manager, Taylor (@todaysmoderndoula) just announced her pregnancy!!! Guys, she’s been TTC for 2 years and finally her dreams of having another baby are coming true. She’s already an amazing mother to her 4-year old daughter and we couldn’t be more excited for her. We are so proud of her strength, resilience, and determination throughout this journey.
We see you. Today’s episode is a weighty topic. Emily Pardy of Ready Nest Counseling, here in Nashville, joined me to discuss perinatal mental health. This is a topic that I am passionate about, but it also hits home HARD. Many of my students and members know that I have dealt personally with sexual trauma, and it has affected my work as a labor nurse. This chat guides survivors of trauma through their pregnancy and postpartum period with an eye toward caring for their emotional well-being.
What are your thoughts about a male labor nurse? I hope it is one of acceptance as this guy is rocking it as compassionate and forward-thinking labor and delivery RN. You can find Aj over on TikTok as NursedudeAj spicing things up with fun labor and delivery videos. Aj and I talk about the role of your labor and delivery nurse, and how he is empowering women to push how they want.
I get asked all the time about crazy conversations that I’ve had with patients, and this one is by far one of those most interesting. Yep, I’m coming in strong with this series! I hope you enjoy!
