GERZEAN KNIFE PREDYNASTIC PERIOD, EGYPT 22.5 cm long / 6.5 cm wide This knife was ceremonily broken or ritually "killed", perhaps to accompany its owner to the afterlife. Made from a fine grade of slightly translucent chert, the manufacturing consisted of six basic stages. First a pre-form was made by percussion flaking, then ground smooth on both faces. Parallel pressure flakes were applied to one side for decoration. Finally the blade edge was finely serrated by micro-flaking.
