Ode to Spreckels Lake

The Bashful Bull Too, where Goofy & Abby go for lunch when Abby is combing the neighborhood, searching for answers about who might have taken Emma. (The Year of Fog, page 137). I'm having the black and white milkshake. Looks like someone had pancakes!

The Year of Fog

Kelly's Cove at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. Kelly's Cove is a popular surfing spot for the fearless. This is along the stretch of beach where Emma disappears. "We'd pick up sandwiches at Joe's Deli and take them down to Ocean Beach, where we'd watch intrepid surfers battling the wild breaks at Kelly's Cove." (page 131) Notice the tagging. Crews are constantly cleaning up tagging along the seawall at Ocean Beach, but new graffiti always appears the next day.

The Julia & David White Artist Colony in Costa Rica, where I began writing The Year of Fog. My studio was on the top right--gorgeous natural light, polished concrete floors. And dinner each night in the main house with the gracious Mr. White, a wonderful composer named Edward, a sculptor, and a crazy North Dakotan. Where are you, Edward?
