IVC pre-med student Marisa Doran was recently named a 2014 Orange Empire Conference Fair-Play Female Character Champion. An IVC freshman women's volleyball and sand volleyball player, Marisa was recognized for her values of sportsmanship, respect, caring, honesty, integrity and responsibility. Becky Moodie helped the women’s volleyball team to one of its best ever seasons, an Orange Empire Conference title, 24-straight wins and a trip to the State Championships. She was also named first team all-conference for the second straight year. She was a key member of the sand volleyball team that won its second state title in a row this spring. Becky is headed to Cal Baptist to continue her athletic and academic career in the fall.
Steven Le was a vital part for the men’s tennis team and helped the Lasers to their two best seasons ever. Last season, Steven assisted the IVC squad to win its first ever conference title. Steven, who played No. 2 singles, had a record of 18-6 overall and was ranked 20th in the state in singles. He reached the final of the conference singles tournament and was also an all-conference player in singles and doubles this past season.
Josh Popke is more than a soccer player - he is on IVC's All-Academic Team which requires a minimum GPA of 3.75. As a two-time scholar-athlete, Popke has been part of Irvine Valley's National Champion Speech and Debate squad. His accomplishments include winning two gold medals in his first-ever tournament for displaying outstanding communicatory skills individually and conjointly when he and his debating partner went undefeated in all of the tournament's debate rounds.
Congratulations to IVC freshman women's volleyball player Annie Mitchem. She was named the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two-Year College Player of the Year. She was also honored as the Most Valuable Player of the Orange Empire Conference, All-State and All-American. Way to go, Annie!
Great job by the Irvine Valley women's volleyball team on Friday night, 3/14, in running the Dig Pink event featuring the IVC men's team vs. OCC. Although the Lasers ultimately lost to OCC, money raised at the event will go to the Side-Out Foundation for cancer awareness and research. Go Lasers!
Congratulations to Sophomore Kate Cho, who was named Irvine Valley's female athlete of the year for 2012-2013! Cho finished as the runner-up at the state tournament at Temecula Creek last fall with a two-day total of 151 (75-76). She was also the medalist at the Orange Empire Conference Finals and is headed to Cal State Fullerton in the Fall! Congratulations on all your success Kate!
On Thursday, February 28th, One of IVC’s soccer classes played against Ryutsu Katzai University from Japan! This game was the first time the Japanese team had played against a U.S. soccer team. Congratulations to both the IVC men’s soccer class, as well as Ryutsu Katzai University for a great game filled with athletic talent and sportsmanship!
