Ethiopian Opal rough and cut
Precious Stones, Opals Crystalsgemsandrock, Gems Minerals, Pearlesc Opals, Gems Stones, Ethiopian Opals Rough And Cut, Natural, Gemstones Minerals Rocks, Rough Cut
Ethiopian opal rough and cut http://www.mayerandwatt.com/ :It is a hydrophane crystal, which means it absorbs moisture, when it comes into contact with it... Opals from Australia, Mexico and Brazil, for the most part, may lose liquid, dry out or craze... Ethiopian opal has the opposite reaction to water. It loses its crystal nature and play of color. If the stone is stable it will dry out and return to its earlier play of color.

"Crown Jewels: The two largest cuts from the Cullinan Diamond were set into the Sovereign's Sceptre, left, and the Imperial State Crown, right" (quote) Britain
All this from ONE stone: Jewellery from world's largest diamond goes on display at Buckingham palace | Daily Mail Online
Crown Jewels: The royal gems all cut from one legendary stone. The two largest cuts from the Cullinan Diamond were set into the Sovereign's Sceptre, left, and the Imperial State Crown, right. The Cullinan Diamond, weighing 3,106 carats in its rough state, was first discovered in 1905 at a mine near Pretoria in South Africa. It was originally discarded being thought too large to be a diamond. Once recovered, it was presented to King Edward VII as a gift and cuts used in the Crown Jewels.

Royal Jewels: Cullinan V Brooch: This heart-shaped stone weighs 18.8 carats & is mounted in a fine radiating platinum web with a scrolling millegrain & pave-set border of brilliant diamonds. The mounting of the jewel was designed to be as adaptable & was most often worn by Queen Mary (& now by The Queen) as a brooch. It also forms the detachable centre section of the diamond & emerald stomacher made for Queen Mary in 1911 & has been worn suspended from the Cullinan VIII Brooch.
Cullinan IX The smallest of the nine stones, weighing 4.4 carats, was set into a platinum ring for Queen Mary in 1911.
