Acer Palmatum dissectum 'Crimson Queen' (Weeping Japanese Maple) Height: 8-10 ft. (2.4-3 m) 10-12 ft. (3-3.6 m). Note on red leaf color- Just like our skin darkens in color, exposure to the sun will darken the red color on Japanese maples leaves. A few hours to ½ day may be enough but more sun will develop a deeper red on the leaves while shady areas grow leaves with a red-blushed green.

This would be pretty in front of the front porch. Mini landscape - Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Seiryu') towers over red-leafed 'Little John' azalea, variegated ivy and abelia in a 2- by 4-foot rectangular black zinc container.

This area is raised by the huge amount of decomposed sod. It is planted with 3 Japanese maples, 2 crepe Mrytles, new varieties of low grasses and other colorful plants. There is a brick border and natural color bark to make weeding easier.

It is suggested you remove any existing grass, then create a barrier between the soil/mulch by layering several layers of newspaper on top of one another then put your mulch down. Good Luck
