Another of my favourites items on display at Christie's London for the Art of Food and Drink auction. "Ein New Kochbuch", the third edition, published in 1604, was written by Mark Rumpolt . Rumpolt was the personal cook to Daniel Brendel von Homburg, Elector of Mainz. This book, I believe, was one of the first textbooks for professional chefs in training. And probably, like all cookbooks in the period, it was intended for aristocratic kitchens' use only. How times have changed...!
Nice display. If you look closely you can see how people worked on the table and used it over the years. A Butcher's Shop Display late 20th C incorporating earlier tools shown above An Elm Butcher's Block, mid-20th Century. At The Art of Food and Drink at Christie's London.
