Inspiration for my character Elliot's #automaton frog in my novella, The Substitute Bride.  In real life, a gold & enamel automaton frog set with half-pearls. Makers: unknown Switzerland, early 19th century. Length: 2 ¼ in./60 mm. This amphibian leaps forward, helping itself with its back feet, stops & areturns its limbs to the starting position. After a brief pause, the frog croaks a few times. The spring enables the mechanism to complete three of these cycles before rewinding. The croaking…
