The Jazz Scene 1960. William Claxton photographed jazz musicians for record labels. Credited as the wife of be-bop trumpeter Donald Byrd. Her name is Lorraine Glover and Byrds song Elgy stands for her initials. Or her name is Yourna Byrd. dont quote me.
NOT BILLIE HOLIDAY, but a pic I like anyway. This is either Lorraine Glover or Yourna Byrd on 48th Street, New York City cira. 1955-56. Both names have been mentioned for the wife of famous hard-bop trumpet player Donald Byrd.
Not Billie Holiday - This is actually the wife of hard bop trumpet player Donald Byrd. Taken by William Claxton, 1960. There is on-going controversy about her name. Yourna Byrd vs. Lorraine Glover. One person stated that in Mr. Byrd's obituary that Lorraine Glover was listed as his wife, but he also recorded a song entitled Yourna that is said to be for his wife. Are they the same person? No matter, it's still not Lady Day!

Raymond Chandler, the master of the hard boiled detective story; and, they were set in LA
Raymond Chandler (July 23, 1888–March 26, 1959) American/British novelist and screenwriter. At age 44, Chandler decided to become a detective fiction writer after losing his job during the Depression. Some of his novels are considered important literary works, and 3 are often considered masterpieces: Farewell, My Lovely, The Little Sister, and The Long Goodbye. Chandler had an immense stylistic influence on American popular literature and his detective Philip Marlowe is a classic character.
“Most critical writing is drivel and half of it is dishonest. It is a short cut to oblivion, anyway. Thinking in terms of ideas destroys the power to think in terms of emotions and sensations.” ~ RAYMOND CHANDLER
Raymond Chandler (1888) Chandler was an American novelist who had an immense impact on the detective genre. His well-plotted and brutally realistic novels, among them The Big Sleep, depict the seedy lowlife of Los Angeles and feature Philip Marlowe, a hard-boiled yet honorable private detective who became the prototype for the tough-guy private eye of many subsequent American detective novels.

Maria Callas by Feerico Patellani - (December 2, 1923 – September 16, 1977) was an American-born (NYC) Greek soprano and one of the most renowned opera singers of the 20th century. Her remarkable musical and dramatic talents led to her being hailed as La Divina. She turned herself from a heavy woman into a svelte and glamorous one after a mid-career weight loss, which might have contributed to her vocal decline and the premature end of her career.

Princess Diana The first photograph I am going to analyse is an image of the iconic Princess of Wales Diana; this image was taken by the celebrated photographer Mario Testino. This was within a series of other photographs which were produced into a book called ‘Diana, Princess of Wales’, it was published in 2007, sadly this was 10 years after the sudden death of Diana.
