Photo of the Day - #Machu #Picchu #From #The #Heavens - #Wayna #Picchu - Near #Cusco, #Peru - The view from the top of Wayna Picchu was the highlight of my trip to Peru and one of the top travel experiences of my life. Getting to this spot requires a reasonably dangerous four-hundred meter climb and a serious pause of any fear you might have of heights, but this surreal view is well worth it. Photo of the Day - Early #Morning #Fog over #Machu #Picchu - Near #Cusco, #Peru - This is the view that makes four days of hiking along the steep Inca Trail worth the effort. Machu Picchu is without a doubt one of the most amazing places in the world! Photo from #absolutevisit at www.absolutevisit... - all images Creative Commons Noncommercial

Photo of the Day - #Resting on the #Inca #Trail - Near #Cusco, #Peru - The Inca Trail is one of those places that everyone dreams of visiting one day. The magical experience that you’ve undoubtedly enjoyed many times in your dreams, actually exists when you arrive at the start of the trail! Photo of the Day - #15,000 #Foot #Textile #Market - #Colca #Canyon, #Peru - On our way to the trailhead for a Colca Canyon hike that we joined in Peru, our van pulled over to the side of the road near a group of Andean women selling locally stitched textiles. The dramatic canyon background sitting right behind them was nothing short of amazing. Photo from #absolutevisit at www.absolutevisit... - all images Creative Commons Noncommercial

Photo of the Day - #Raw #Inca #Steps to #Machu #Picchu - Near #Cuzco, #Peru - One of the reasons Machu Picchu is so popular is because of the incredible way in which you can complete your journey to get there from where you are sitting right now. There is a famous ancient trail that hundreds of years ago was used by the Emperor of the Incas to journey to Machu Picchu. Photo of the Day - #Grandmas #Snack #Stand - #Cuzco, #Peru - Looking at this picture I can’t help but wonder how many days in a row this woman has carefully setup her little store. Will and I found her while browsing through the central market in #Cuzco searching for warm alpaca woven hats to take with us on our four day Inca Trail journey back in 2009. Photo of the Day - #Peruvian #Cliffside #View - #Lima, #Peru - On our very first day on our trip around the world back in 2009, Will and I explored the upscale area of Mira Flores in #Lima, #Peru. Our long walk from our hostel to Mira Flores took us along these steep #oceanside #cliffs. Even though we were so close to the water, we didn’t get the feeling that we were remotely near a beach. Photo of the Day - Real World #Ceviche - #Cuzco, #Peru - Here is a picture of a #ceviche stand in the middle of the central market in #Cuzco, #Peru. Look at the massive piles of fish that they are serving from. Look at how strikingly casual this space is and how normal the customers look. In #Peru you are able to find plates loaded with incredibly delicious ceviche for less than a couple of dollars. Photo of the Day - #Bullfight Ending - #Plaza_de_#Acho - #Lima, #Peru - This was our first #bullfight experience. The inhumane violence that took place in the center of the arena was as expected, but neither of us were prepared for what our eyes saw after the event. The losing #bulls were butchered on site and left out in the open for all to see as they passed through the outside of the arena. Photo of the Day – Wild #Peruvian #Alpaca – Near #Colca_Canyon, #Peru The title of this post is a little deceiving. Alpaca have been domesticated for thousands of years in the South American Andes Mountains and there are no known Alpaca living in the wild today. So why label this guy a “Wild” Peruvian Alpaca? Photo of the Day – #Peruvian #Sand_Dunes#Huacachina, #Peru I bet if I showed this picture to 100 people, nobody would be able to guess where it was from. Where do you think it is from (did you cheat and read the title)? I took this photo atop these massive sand dunes near a small town called Huacachina in southeastern Peru. Mountainside Homes of Lima – Lima, Peru This is one of the first pictures Brad and I took on our around-the-world trip in 2009 and 2010. We were attending a bull fight in Lima, Peru, at Plaza de Acho and I remember spotting this while looking behind the stadium from our seats. Our seats were in the “nose bleeds” which gave us a pretty nice view of the neighborhoods behind the stadium. These neighborhoods remind me a lot of the Brazilian favelas that cling to the ...

The End of a Pigs Life – Local Market – Cuzco, Peru Sorry for the gruesome title! In fact it really is not the truth as the pig in the photo was obviously dead before I showed up to take pictures. Although if you focus your eyes on the pigs face you will swear it is alive.

Camera Friendly Butcher – Chinatown Market – Lima, Peru When I am looking through my camera lens I become a different person. The second my eyeball peers through the viewfinder I lose my outgoing personality and instantly clam up. I find it very difficult to take photos of people and their possessions in public. I know I am not alone here; I think that most people don’t feel comfortable permanently capturing images of people and things that are not theirs.

Chicken Shopping – Lima Chinatown – Lima, Peru Americans are absolutely terrified of seeing their food in its raw animal form. We don’t do heads, we don’t do feet, we don’t do the insides, and we almost don’t even do bones. Basically, if anything that you sell me in a store or serve on my plate has any visual representation of the animal it came from – no thank you. Markets around the world fascinate us. Could you imagine ...

Llaqtapata Ruins on the Inca Trail – near Cusco, Peru These ruins are the first big set of ruins you encounter on the Inca Trail. I remember when we first saw these I was pretty amazed, but knew that it was only going to make Machu Picchu that much more impressive. The ruins were very far away from where we were hiking, but with the power of the Nikon 18-200 telephoto lens, we were able to bring the ruins a bit closer...

Peruvian Snack Stand – Arequipa, Peru We stumbled upon this snack stand in Arequipa, Peru, just before we left for our adventurous hike through Colca Canyon. What I love about this photo is that it captures something very different that you would not see in most places in the world – especially the US. These snack stands were literally covered from top to bottom with goods, and what really makes this photo are the vibrant colors almost glowing from the packaging!

Flight of the Condor in Colca Canyon – Colca Canyon, Peru With a wingspan of 10.5 feet (3.2m) the Andean Condor is hard to miss. And it is certainly not something you’ll want to miss if you venture to Peru. We spotted this Condor flying high over Colca Canyon. Unfortunately, one of the more memorable things about this trip was taking a small van with a few too many people crammed in through the back roads of Peru ...
