I Therefore Believe It Is My Duty To My Country To Love It; To Support Its Constitution; To Obey Its Laws; To Respect Its Flag; And To Defend It Against All Enemies. From the American Creed.
E pluribus unum (pronounced /ˈiː ˈplʊərɨbəs ˈuːnəm/; Latin [ˈeː ˈpluːrɪbʊs ˈuːnũː]), Latin for "Out of many, one", is a phrase on the Seal of the United States, along with Annuit cœptis and Novus ordo seclorum, and adopted by an Act of Congress in 1782. The phrase is similar to a Latin translation of a variation of Heraclitus's 10th fragment, "Out of all things one, one out of all things." A variant of the phrase was used in Moretum, a poem attributed to Virgil but with the actual author unknown. In the poem text, color est e pluribus unus describes the blending of colors into one. St Augustine used a variant of the phrase, ex pluribus unum, in his Confessions. At the time of the American Revolution, the exact phrase appeared prominently on the title page of a popular periodical, The Gentleman's Magazine, which collected articles from many sources into one "magazine". The motto was suggested in 1776 to the committee responsible for the developing the seal by Pierre Eugene du Simitiere. Never codified by law, E pluribus unum was considered a de facto motto of the United States until 1956 when the United States Congress passed an act (H.J. Resolution 396), adopting "In God We Trust" as the official motto. The first coins with E pluribus unum were dated 1786 and struck under the authorization of the State of New Jersey by Thomas Goadsby and Albion Cox in Rahway, New Jersey. The motto had no New Jersey linkage but was likely an available die that had been created by Walter Mould the previous year for a failed federal coinage proposal. Walter Mould was also authorized by New Jersey to strike state coppers with this motto and did so beginning in early 1787 in Morristown, New Jersey. Lt. Col. Seth Reed of Uxbridge, Massachusetts was said to have been instrumental in having E Pluribus Unum placed on US coins Seth Read and his brother Joseph Read had been authorized by the Massachusetts General Court to mint coppers in 1786. In March 1786, Seth Reed petitioned the Massachusetts General Court, both the House and the Senate, for a franchise to mint coins, both copper and silver, and "it was concurred". While Annuit cœptis and Novus ordo seclorum appear on the reverse side of the great seal, E pluribus unum appears on the obverse side of the seal (Designed by Charles Thomson), the image of which is used as the national emblem of the United States, and appears on official documents such as passports. It also appears on the seal of the President and in the seals of the Vice President of the United States, of the United States Congress, of the United States House of Representatives, of the United States Senate and on the seal of the United States Supreme Court.

There's so much to know about The United States of America and its flag. But, do you know the words to the American Creed? The American Creed: (written by William Tyler Page of Friendship Heights, Maryland in the course of a nationwide contest on the subject. Page was a descendent of President Tyler, and Representative John Page, who served in the Congress from 1789-97.) from 108th Congress, 1st Session H.Doc. 108-97, Our Flag, Joint Committee on Printing United States Congress. By U.S. Government [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons "I Believe In The United States Of America As A Government Of The People, By The People, For The People; Whose Just Powers Are Derived From The Consent Of The Governed; A Democracy In A Republic, A Sovereign Nation Of Many Sovereign States; A Perfect Union, One And Inseparable; Established Upon Those Principles Of Freedom, Equality, Justice, And Humanity For Which American Patriots Sacrificed Their Lives And Fortunes. I Therefore Believe It Is My Duty To My Country To Love It; To Support Its Constitution; To Obey Its Laws; To Respect Its Flag; And To Defend It Against All Enemies." "On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress passed a resolution authorizing a committee to devise a seal for the United States of America. This mission, designed to reflect the Founding Fathers' beliefs, values, and sovereignty of the new Nation, did not become a reality until June 20, 1782. In heraldic devices, such as seals, each element has a specific meaning. Even colors have specific meanings. The colors red, white, and blue did not have meanings for The Stars and Stripes when it was adopted in 1777. However, the colors in the Great Seal did have specific meanings. Charles Thompson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, reporting to Congress on the Seal, stated: "The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice." Also this from a book about the flag published in 1977 by the House of Representatives... "The star is a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial; the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun."

American Soldiers..Real Heroes
I am a whisper on the wind, of times past, of places long forgotten, Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Bataan, Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Seoul, Laos, Saigon, Cambodia, Kuwait. Iraq, Afghanistan. I am the heart of countless numbers of scarred and maimed American veterans, and the soul of the buried unknowns. I am an integral part of each white cross in Flanders Field, and I am sealed within each name on 'The Wall'. I am part of each and every headstone of every American soldier in every cemetery around the world. I am deeply enmeshed in each tiny undiscovered bone fragment of American soldiers, left behind on foreign soil. I am the unseen shadows, the unheard voices in those many empty cells that once held my brothers in unspeakable torture. I am the unbearable pain in the hearts of every mother, father, wife, husband, brother sister, and child, of missing American soldiers from all wars. I am within each and every teardrop shed by these family members for their unaccounted for loved ones. I am the essence of each and every drop of blood shed in the past or in the future, by an American soldier in the name of freedom. I am the lifeblood of the colors of the American flag, blue for my loyalty and unwavering dedication, white for my steadfastness, and red for my pride and love of country. I am the spirit of those names on the black Granite Wall, of all those unaccounted for in every war, of those who went away to war as gallant young men and came back, older than time...OR NOT AT ALL.

Our country and those who fight for it deserve our utmost respect and devotion. As Christian citizens we are required to be loyal to the United States of America and to do everything in our power to respect those in authority and to put the right people in authority and to obey the laws set in place. We are a people under God, and we obey our Lord by doing our duty as citizens of this beloved land <3 Salute to the American Flag.

Traditionally, in the US, the long Memorial Day weekend is the start of the summer... and we get to do this... ...and this... because of... this... and this... while never truly feeling the weight of this... or, God forbid, this... I am in tears here, just seeing these pictures, sorry to be so sappy and personal and...yikes... emotional...so not me... but I am feeling a bit fired up and completely non PC, and while I know I should be saying, "Let's all pray for the protection and safe return of our brave soldiers and for the families of those we have lost"...and I do pray those very words from the bottom of my heart...but what can I say the flesh is weak, so I hope you will forgive me for also saying that I am so damn proud of all of those VOLUNTEERS in uniform, who do what 99.999 percent of us will never have to! GOD BLESS & KEEP YOU! And you know what else? I know that I was so blessed to have been born in the United States and I am very proud to be an American! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Phewwwwwwwwww! Sorry about that... I just had to get it out...I have descended from the soapbox and am now wanting to share what Bee and her husband (patriotic can hardly describe this guy!) have been doing this Memorial week. This is what the front of Bee's home looks like... I think there are about 20 flags...it's tasteful, I promise, most are in these really cool Martha Stewart holders. Well, every night this week, Bee & J have been "stealth flaggers"! Under the cover of darkness they "crupt" (to borrow a Dr Seuss-ism) and left a package with a flag and pole, and a note asking their neighbors if they would please honor our brave soldiers by flying a flag this Memorial weekend. And, WOW! Does their street look cool! The kid across the street even came over to ask J if he would help him because, "someone left a flag on our porch, but my dad's not home and I don't have tools, so would you help me put it up?"...I think J skipping across the street, drill in hand, just may have been a dead give-away! ;) Enjoy & REMEMBER! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

MSNBC's Chris Hayes spent Memorial Day getting criticized for having asked aloud whether we should apply the word "hero" to every American soldier killed in war. His concern was that this usage is "rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war." Actually, to say Hayes was "criticized" is to make the blowback sound more cerebral than it was. Ann Coulter tweeted, "Chris Hayes 'Uncomfortable' Calling Fallen Military 'Heroes' -- Marines respond by protecting his right to menstruate."
by Jared Jenkins In War, there are lives risked and lives taken Men and women giving their best to defend what they love They defend their country. Their honor. Their people Some call them soldiers Others call them heroes Our veterans have risked their lives for us They have lived through hell and fought with honor Many have killed. And regret doing so For every life, there is a soul For every soul, there is a life For those who have died, we show great appreciation and remembrance For those who live, along with them live the horrific memories of battle Some, memories of defeat Some, memories of victory Our veterans were more than soldiers They were, and still are heroes. ~GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE~
