COYER Summer Vacation Reading Challenge
Because Reading Is Better Than Real Life and Fantasy Is More Fun are hosting COYER again. This time around COYER is a little different. To begin with, it runs most of the summer; then, instead of being only ebooks, it can be any book - digital, print, audio, doesn't matter- nor do they need to be freebies. There are also read-a-thons planned every few weeks. Full details are here - http://www.becausereading.com/coyers-summer-vacation-sign/ I'm not going to make a list of books as pretty much any book read during the time frame counts. As I read books I'll add them here and I'll also track them during my monthly challenge wrap ups. So, clear out your TBR shelf, whittle down that pile, and join in the summer fun.
I decided to participate in Coyer Summer Vacation. This is the first time I participate in a Coyer event, but I’ve seen it around a the blogosphere a few times already and always wanted to pa…

Ancient May-hem Reading Challenge
2014 Ancient May-hem Reading Challenge – Introduction & Sign-up
A Novel Challenge: Ancient May-hem Reading Challenge
May 1, 2014 – May 31, 2014 This year, because I have a bit of leftover brainspace for nerdtastic things, because it’s my birthday month, and because I simply can, I shall declare May to be one of Ancient May-hem! Essentially, I plan to read as many texts from Ancient Greek and Rome as time allows, and then post about each after I’m done. I currently only have a rather vague list containing the works of Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, and Plutarch, but I’ll have this consolidated by the beginning of May. In any case, I’m hoping to indulge in a great deal of Ancient May-hem! I know it might be a little late to make this a “proper” reading challenge, but I’m going to try to hold an “improper” one anyway (whatever that means). If you’re interested in joining me, please sign up using the “Add a Link” thingy below—participants who read at least one text will be in the running for a book prize at the end of the month! Rules Read at least one text/book by an Ancient Greek or Roman writer—this can be in any translation of your choosing, and can be of any text type (poetry, drama, treatise, etc). For this time round, the focus is on the Western Classics, so I’m afraid other Ancient works won’t count (sorry—maybe next year!). Please specify the translation/edition you’ve read, just to add to the mayhem. Want to read a free version available online via Project Gutenberg or some such? You’re absolutely welcome to do so! Post about the challenge on your blog, Goodreads, Twitter—whatever works for you! Whichever you choose, please provide a link back to this post and share the news. In the sign-up “Add a Link” form, link to your challenge sign-up post (if you’re blogging), or to your Goodreads/Twitter/whatnot account. You don’t need to write any reviews to participate in the challenge—just reading is enough! You don’t even need to sign-up to participate—but if you do, you’ll be in the running for a prize draw after the challenge is over. The prize will be a Classical-related book of your choosing under ~AU$20. This reading challenge is hosted by Samantha Lin. For more information and to sign-up, please see this post.

A Novel Challenge: Language Freak Summer Challenge
Hi, Hi! I'm still alive, yes :) I suck at blogging lately, but getting ozone in your spine is no easy work, I tell you! Moreover, I wanted to make pictures of the books I want to read, and with my ancient phone that's a challenge in itself! So obviously, I'm signing up for the highest level of my own challenge! And that is an advanced level, which means I pledge to read at least 3 books in foreign languages this summer. Easy-peasy! I also want to read a book in each language I know to complete the crazy linguist level, but we'll see how it'll go. Let's go language by language now! For my history with this languages, you are welcome to read my last year's sign-up post, nothing has changed since then! And here I'll only list the books I'm going to read. Czech First, I have a book for boys about adventures in a summer camp (the left one) which I took from my friend last summer and haven't read yet. Shame on me! And second, my Czech teacher has lent me Hrabal's I Served the English King, which comes highly recommended not only by her and is supposed to be very funny! Spanish Here are the three books I have been trying to read for a couple of years now! Quiroga's even have a bookmark in it! They are all very thin, but have such a large vocabulary that reading them is anything but easy. But this year I want to finish at least one! Platero Y Yo, probably. It's about a donkey, what can be difficult? We'll see. And I'd like to continue my reading of Harry Potter series in Spanish and read The Goblet of Fire. I'm a bit afraid, as the fourth book is much more grown-up and log than the previous three, but I bet it'll still be easier than any of the three you see above :) German Nothing planned! I don't have any books in German left, and I'm open to suggestions! Do you know something easy and entertaining for an intermediate learner that hates complicated sentences? Please, recommend me something! That's it for me! I hope I'll manage it by the end of summer! :)

A Novel Challenge: 2014 Kristin Hannah Reading Challenge
This picture is used with written permission from Dandelion Moms. It is no secret that I have fallen in love with Kristin Hannah this year and her world of Firefly Lane. That is why I decided to create a reading challenge so I could spend a year lost with Kristin Hannah novels. I created the Jodi Picoult reading challenge last year and have to admit I myself did not have success with the challenge and it created very little buzz around the blogging community. I have to say I don't expect many people to join this one either, but I'm excited to host it never the less. I plan to reread Firefly Lane and Fly Away in 2014. I might even host an event to go along with me rereading the novels. I don't know. For sure Firefly Lane and Fly Away have been the books I have recommended the most in 2013 and will continue to do so. These books were so deeply emotional and these were the characters I got the most deeply involved with in this past year. I created this challenge so I could read more Kristin Hannah books and I hope that other people will join in with me. Her main theme in her novels is Friendship, which is a theme that is so easy to relate to. Kristin Hannah is an author that I hope everybody will give a try and I hope you will join in this challenge with me. The Challenge Details: The Challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st, 2014 Any Kristin Hannah books finished after January 1st will count The goal is to read or reread as many Kristin Hannah books as possible any format will count (book, ebook, audiobook) you can list books in advance or list them as you go. It is not required that you review the books for this challenge, but if you do feel free to link them below rereads and crossovers from other reading challenge are allowed and encouraged You do not have to have a blog to participate in this challenge as long as you have a site to keep track of your progress. Post a link in the linky below where I can keep track of your progress Levels: Walk Down the Road: 1 to 2 novels Evening Stroll: 3 to 4 novels I don't expect to read any more than 4 novels this year of hers. If you read more and would like to come up with a new level name for me please do. I want to thank everybody in advance for joining. I will look forward to reading all the lovely sign up posts. The linky will be posted below.

\ Hosted by Fiktshun February 14th through July 14th I decided to join the Don't Let It End challenge to further help me finish some of those series I'm in the middle of. I made a spreadsheet yesterday thanks to The Snuggly Oranges. I learned that in my lifetime I have completed 16 series. I have 11 series that I need to finish, and I have 5 series that I have given up on. It is not very easy to see, but some of these series are short like only two books so I could finish them easily while others I have quite a bit to read before I reach the end. Then there is books like The Lunar Chronicles where I'm still waiting for the next book to come out. I have been reading the Little House: Caroline Years series for several years. I have two books left so I do really hope to finish that series. Rachael
