Frustrated Choice Board- This is a choice board for students who have the tendency to display inappropriate behaviors when they are frustrated. this would be helpful to have accessible to students when they begin to escalate. It's great for students who are verbal or non-verbal, as the visual cue helps them to make a better decision.
Autism Awareness Cards- I started using these 8 years ago. I always make my own and they make a HUGE impact on people. When in public and our son is disruptive, somone always has to say something out loud or just under the breath so we can hear it. Without saying a word, we walk up, hand them a card and walk away. 9 out of ten people will come up and say thank you, apologize for judging, or ask for more info on Autism.
Calm Down Jar. It is really easy to make. The goal is that when they are feeling out of control, they shake the jar, then sit and watch the glitter settle in the water. When the glitter settles, they can get up. This one is a really great technique to use in lieu of timeout.
