Muscle tension can be a reaction to stress, both physical and emotional, as the body's way of protecting itself from injury and pain. Some symptoms of trapped emotions in the body include: muscle tension or tightness, a feeling of heaviness or tiredness, a “lump” or choking sensation in the throat, aching or pain, and nausea or “knots” in the stomach.
