Eventually, the emperor Khilji got disgusted, defeated them comprehensively, beheaded 8,000 of them and spiked them in Chor Minar. Or at least that’s how the legend goes. The pillar at the Qutab Minar complex in New Delhi in India may have been brought from Bihar by the city’s founding king Anang Pal. According to legend, a Hindu priest advised the king to plant it in the ground so that it could rest on the head of the snake king; and as long as that holds steady, the king’s rule will do so likewise. The grave of Sufi saint and mystic Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya in New Delhi. Nizamuddin himself was buried in a simple grave in the centre of the courtyard – he wanted it this way. But over time his devotees added their bits to show their love to what is now an ornate structure. The grave of Sufi saint and mystic Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya in New Delhi. Nizamuddin himself was buried in a simple grave in the centre of the courtyard – he wanted it this way. But over time his devotees added their bits to show their love to what is now an ornate structure. The Tomb of Atgah Khan in the Nizamuddin Dargah (mosque) complex in New Delhi. Atgah Khan, was a favoured noble of Emperor Akbar just like another, Adham Khan. The latter, son of Akbar’s foster mother Maham Anaga, became insecure and jealous and killed Atgah Khan. Akbar was enraged and threw Adham over the walls of the Agra Fort twice – once to kill him, and another time to ensure he was dead. These shops will offer to keep your shoes safe – you may not wear these inside the mosque. You are supposed to cover your head in the mosque. Qawwali performers at Nizamuddin Dargah (mosque) in New Delhi. Chand Nizami, Shadab Nizami and their group of Qawwals have a special gift from God, or Allah. When they start singing their Qawwalis, the gathered audience cannot help but lose themselves to the melodies. They perform on Thursday evenings from around sunset and then again from 9:00 - 10:30 p.m. Your faith does not matter, their music is for everyone. Alai Minar, Allaudin Khilji’s unfinished tower of victory in the Qutab Minar (tower) in New Delhi built in the early 14th century. Khilji tried to build a Tower of Victory to commemorate his victories in the Deccan region of south India. He wanted it to be twice the height of the Qutab Minar but the project was technically unfeasible, and he too dies soon after starting work. It was thus left unfinished forever.
