Legends surrounding the origin of Tarantella range from celebration music in Classical Greek holidays honouring Apollo and Dionysus, through to later Roman equivalents. A popular story is that dancing to fast tempo music was prescribed as a cure for a venomous spider bite. I found out about Tarantellas by accident when I was searching Ennio Morricone scores on Youtube. The music from the films Allonsanfan and Inglourious Basterds is a grave tarantella.
