At the Pond unit: Science-Set up a water table. Put a plastic bag over the child's hand. Put a rubber band LIGHTLY around their wrist. It is important that the rubber band not be tight on their wrist not to cut off circulation. Have your child spread their fingers and then run them through the water. The plastic bag will act like webbed feet pulling and resisting in the water. Have them put their fingers together and run them through the water again.
Tweezing spiders (feeding the frog). I saw this idea featured at Living Montessori Now Leap Year activities post from The Preschool Experiment (she has such a great Pond unit post). This is an empty parmesan cheese container. I glued two green pom-poms, two googly eyes and a piece of red felt.
This is a fun sensory table to go with a pond or water animals theme. First, cut green craft foam sheets into lily pad shapes. Pour water in the sensory table, and add the lily pads. Then add some small plastic animals, such as fish in the water, and turtles and frogs to place on the lily pads. The craft foam lily pads will float even after you put animals on top of them.
