This is an old piece, bought in the early 80s in the Syrian town of Hama /Orontes. A heavy black skirt, worn by old ladies, created as a part of their dowry. It might not be very precious but I have chosen it to honour all the Syrian girls and women who suffer in this terrible war. They don' t have time any more for beauty and crafts, they are all struggling to survive. Submitted by: Barbara Nicolai Handmade: Syria
I missed the world embroidery day but this is my favourite piece of embroidery that I have created. A long and short blue beetle stitched with stranded cotton on a white silk dupion. Created by: Margaret Dier Embroidery, United Kingdom
Hand embroidery is my passion. One can see my needleworks in visiting my Facebook page: Fils et formes par Esther Ross My favorite piece is usually the one I am working on at the moment. This one started with a bundle of 42, 4 inch squares of hand dyed felted wool that I bought the last time I visited the Knitting and Stitching Show in London. It is an all wool on wool work. My favorite petit point stitch is always the work still in progress. My name is Elena Zidaru, President of The Gobelin and Handicraft Art Association, non-profit NGO in Romania. The works belonging to association members you can see on our site: www.goblenart.com. We use this hobby as a relaxation therapy and we want to promote it in art.
Embroidery is alive and well in New York City! Members of the New York MetroStitchers get together to celebrate World Embroidery Day, heavy rain, flash floods and heavy traffic notwithstanding. We enjoyed an evening of stitching in public fueled by delicious teas at a modern tea salon located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
I love this embroidery because it reminds me of so much that I've lost and how much I still have. The day I started this piece, my home town was in the middle of a massive forest fire that burned 48,000 acres in Northern New Mexico. I was half a world away in my new home of Ireland and an emotional wreck, worried about my family, my home, the beautiful forests I grew up in. I am sharing below piece of embroidery work from Afghanistan. It is a ladies shawl (wrap) that I bought for my wife while on field mission to province. It is special for me as it is the needlework of poor Afghan women, most of whom lost their male members of family due to conflict. These women work on such piece to earn a living for their children and keep the tradition alive. Submitted by: Nafi Handmade: Afghanistan
