Photo by Richard Sullivan: Hilo's many Beach Parks are unique for their hundreds of crystal clear natural pools and coves in which to swim/cool off. This is one of the series of natural pools at Richardson Beach Park.
Queen Liliuokalani: (1838–1917) A devout Anglican and pacifist, she reigned as the last Queen of Hawaii from 1891–1893. Unwilling to permit Hawaiian blood to be shed in defense of the monarchy, she was deposed by colonists, held under house arrest in her own palace, and convicted of treason. While confined, she had only the Bible and the Anglican Prayer Book to read, both of which influenced the great body of music she composed. (September 2)
