Bucket List - Board Games

Alyice Edrich shares board games she's playing as part of her bucket list... one game a month, minimum. Board games aren't cheap... if you want to play a new game every month, you may need to borrow games from friends, wait for a good sale, see if your local library lends games, or hit up local garage sales and thrift stores... making sure to always check that all the pieces are there.

September 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Blokus - Love this game! It's a strategy game for two to four players. The idea is to fill the board, will getting rid of all your pieces... but be careful, you don't want to close off your path as you attempt to block your opponents. Need some challenging board games to encourage family interaction and good clean fun? Here is a list of our top favourite fantastic family board games.

November 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Lotus. It's a simple card game that requires both luck and strategy. You try to beat your opponent by completing as many flowers as possible while preventing them from laying down. It's looks deceptively boring, but it's quite fun! January 2017 - What I'm Playing - Game - Mahjong - Seems I got hooked on an app! I've wanted to learn how to play Mahjong for quite some time. This year, I gave up on finding a partner and went solitaire style! This is more of a matching tiles game... not sure if traditional mahjong is the same or not, but I've had fun playing. October 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Yahtzee, Firefly. I don't see myself ever using the ship as a dice shaker, but as a collectible, it's a nice piece of work. The die are painted, versus etched, so I feel in time the paint will come off... for now, however, very cool! (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight #Games

January 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Dark Seas by AEG - You basically build your own sea with little islands and ports which allow you to earn money and points while screwing your opponents by taking away their pirates and/or money. While most of the game is determined by the luck of the draw and the luck of the dice, there is a bit of strategy that comes into play. January 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Tsuro of the Seas - This is such a simple game. You get a few tiles and a game piece. Your goal is to move your game piece on the board -- along the path you create using the titles in your hand -- without getting kicked off. In this edition, there are obstacle tiles you have to watch out for, to make the game more challenging. (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight #Games

December 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Konito? Who will get the last word? is a really fun game that tests your memory when it comes to common expressions and phrases. A card gives you a partial expression or phrase, and it's up to you to finish it. The only problem I have with this game is that there isn't an expansion pack of expressions to keep the game going. August 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Tetris LInk - This is a fun two player game... roll the die, choose the matching piece, and attempt to link same-colored Tetriminos together while simultaneously blocking your opponent from doing the same thing. Find rolling the die too easy? Don't use it. (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight #Games

April 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Catan with the Cities and Knights Expansion Kit - This adds a new element to the original game of Catan, giving you Knights to protect your cities, a barbarian to hurt your city, and development cards that allow you to move up in ranks. In does, however, expand your playing time by a few hours... making it an afternoon event! (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight #Games

March 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - The Settlers of Catan - This is a fun game. The goal is simple... build roads to create settlements, then purchase materials to trade for more roads and settlements. You can also upgrade from a settlement to a city and with the expansion kits the game never gets dull because you can add more variants. You do need at least three players for the game to be fun, though. (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight…

Settlers of Catan -- another favorite. STRONGLY recommend getting the player expansion as well. Not sure how the edition differs from earlier ones, if it does at all. I've only played earlier editions.

February 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Solitaire Frenzy - I like this so much better than traditional Solitaire. It is definitely more challenging trying to play off everyone else's cards, but it teaches you eye/hand coordination and memory skills. January 2016 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Connect 4 Stackers - I like this so much better than traditional Connect 4. It's three-dimensional so it's harder to play and really makes you think about where you move. (not an affiliate link, endorsement, or sponsorship) #Boardgames #FamilyNight #Games

November 2015 - What I'm Playing - Board Games - Pack and Stack - This is not an easy game to play but it can be fun with the right people. You roll the dice and it tells you how much stuff you have to move in your moving truck. Then you flip over your cards, look at what each other has and grab the card with the truck you think will fit everything you have to move.
