National Film Registry, 2005-2009

The National Film Registry is the US National Film Preservation Board's selection of films for preservation in the Library of Congress. The Board was established by the National Film Preservation Act of 1988. The National Film Registry names to its list up to 25 "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films" each year. Librarian of Congress James Billington said of the power of film: "Stories unite people, theories divide them."
