The book was written as if it could have existed in the 1930s and would have made an excellent pre-code film. "Amends" shows us that our actions truly do affect others and can have long-reaching consequences, which is as relatable now as it would have been in the 30s. It's a tale of love, deceit, lies, money, and murder. All-in-all, a light, entertaining read.
