Human Mind
John B. Vashon was active in the anti-slavery movement. He bought the freedom of blacks being held by slave catchers. Slave catchers earned a tidy profit by kidnapping blacks in the North & enslaving them. In 1850 this was especially true after the original Fugitive Slave Law of 1792, was revised. The new federal law deputized vigilantes & pd the bounties. Vashon sheltered & employed men after purchasing their freedom. Click & Listen to Black History WWW.blackHistoryBLOG.com
