Carl Sagan. Astronomer, writer, unparalleled popularizer of science. Vastly knowledgeable on a huge range of subjects and a superb writer, he was able to have both a sense of romance and wonder at the natural world, yet still keep the scientific skepticism needed to discern truth from wishful thinking.

Carl Sagan - Brilliance in science that lives, will live and sparkle for eons! One of my 'most admired' personalities.
Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" television series was one of the best things I ever watched. Now nearly 30 years old it can still enthral and amaze me with its breadth and depth of history, science and knowledge. It had a profound effect on me when I first saw it that has continued to this day.
Better the hard truth, I say, than the comforting fantasy. And in the final tolling it often turns out that the facts are more comforting than the fantasy. -Carl Sagan

Romanesco broccoli, showing fractal forms
Food, Cauliflowers, Art, Sacred Geometry, Nature Fractals, Gardens, Custards Apples, Fractals Broccoli, Romanesco Broccoli
Romanesco broccoli resembles a cauliflower, but is of a light green colour and the inflorescence (the bud) has an approximate self-similar character, with the branched meristems making a logarithmic spiral. In this sense the broccoli's shape approximates a natural fractal; the number of spirals on the head of Romanesco broccoli is a Fibonacci number.

Mandelbrot Set. The most famous of all fractal images. Funny story. I was working in a wine shop in New York in the early 90s and helped an older gentleman find some wine for a dinner party he was going to that evening. Seemed nice enough, helped him to his car and he left. As I walked back in, my boss asked me if I was walking on a cloud. I didn't know what he was talking about and then he told me I had helped Mr. Mandelbrot. I turned to go talk to him but he had left. I was so close.
