Benson & Rixon Co. in Chicago. Designed by Alfred S. Alschuler in 1937. Neon font choice as curvilinear as the streamline deco architecture.
In 1930 there was a competition to design a war memorial that would ultimately sit just due east from the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. The two design finalists would be estimated at between two and five million dollars to build. The Great Depression would ensure that the memorial would never be realized.
