Antique Japanese Ivory Mermaid Netsuke - circa 19th century. This carved ivory piece is in the image of a mermaid but with a kabuki face! The face actually rotates on a spindle to reveal alternating alluring and evil faces.

Jason deCaires Taylor's Submerged Figurative Sculptures House Thriving Coral Reefs: Juxtapoz-UnderwaterSculpture18.jpeg
Truly amazing and moving underwater sculpture gardens. This is the sort of things that aliens will marvel at long after we are all gone!
This is the largest underwater museum in the world. Naturally, this museum is placed underwater, off the cost of Isla de Mujeres and Cancun, in Mexico. This fantastic museum houses a series of sculptures and statues by Jason deCaires Taylor. Scuba diving, snorkeling and glass-bottom boat trips can be enjoyed to visit this amazing museum.
Jason deCaires Taylor submerges his work—predominantly human figures—in the waters of the West Indies and in the Gulf of Mexico. Over time, the permanent installations come to act as artificial reefs, attracting corals, aggregating fish species, and increasing marine biomass. Most of Taylor’s figures stand with their faces upturned to the surface, their eyes closed, as they are silently and arrestingly overtaken by algae, sponges, and hydrozoans.
Underwater Sculpture by Jason deCaires Taylor / Under water Museum Cancun, Mexico... pretty awesome
