    Camping Checklist

camping with kids, you should have at least one Pie Iron, (preferably one for each kid), in your camping cookware. They are versatile – you can make anything from grilled cheese sandwiches to instant fruit pies. And they are so safe and easy to use that you can let your young campers make their own fun camping recipes for kids. Just pop in the ingredients, close, cook over the campfire, and out comes delicious sandwiches, or biscuit-dough fruit tarts, or dozens of other camp food choices.

Reading lamp that is easy on the eyes. I have used candles, headlamps, and at least one portable camping light to provide lighting for reading and writing at night in camp. A drawback of all those tools is the glare of the lamp. By contrast, this simple system is easy on the eyes. It is a gallon milk jug filled with water with a headlamp pointing into the water.

Camping tip..Keep your cooler cold without the slushy water. Fill a gallon or half gallon jug with water. add 1/4 cup table salt to the gallon or 1/8 cup to a half gallon . leave an inch of room at the top of the jug for expansion and freeze. place in your cooler instead of an ice bag,,

One of the best survival fire-making tools is a combination of cotton balls and petroleum jelly, and you can make these firestarter kits for pennies. Basically, you infuse (or gob) the cotton balls with Vaseline or some petroleum jelly derivative (such as Chapstick, Purell handcleaner, etc). When you need to make a fire, fluff up the cotton (as much as you can), and light it with a shower of sparks from a magnesium stick, match, or butane lighter.
