Schlörwagen, aka the Pillbug Car or 'Göttingen's egg', presented 1939, by the engineer Karl Schlör (1911-1997) | via http://ufansius.tumblr.com (see also: http://www.dieselpunks.org/profiles/blogs/lord-k-s-garage-113-the-schl-rwagen)
1939 Schlörwagen "Pillbug" (or "Göttingen Egg") concept car, designed by Karl Schlör, a Krauss Maffei engineer in Germany
Dr. Karl Schlör 1939 Schlörwagen Pillbug. Drag coefficient of 0.13. Due to the start of WWII this car was not produced, and the only one made was confiscated by the British after the war and never seen again
Dr. Karl Schlör and his invention, the incredibly aerodynamic 1939 Schlörwagen Pillbug. The car achieved an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.13, unbelievably low even for now. Shortly after prototyping, Hitler started WW II, resulting in abandonment of this and similar projects.

Professor Karl Schlör from AVA (an Aerodynamic Testing Institute in Göttingen) came up with a rear-mounted-engine aerodynamic shape with an unbelievable drag coefficient of 0.13 - and presented the completed working concept car in 1939 at the Berlin Auto Show. While a fascinating historical relic, the Schlörwagen doesn’t have much to teach us about automotive design, Livingstone says. It was simply too singular in purpose, with little concession to the other things we want from our cars.

The Schlörwagen Pillbug, c.1936 -“Following WW II, it lay in storage for a few years until someone decided to make it into some form of prop-driven snow vehicle for Russia. However, it was sent to Finland instead and experimented with before it returned to Germany before May 1945 and was seized by the British in their zone and supposedly taken back to London.” http://my-ear-trumpet.tumblr.com/

Rotating Mirror in Human Birdcage Alters Perception of Space - My Modern Metropolis
Mirror, Artists, Sculpture, Inspiration, Cage, Artist S Installations, Artist Jeppe, Design
Cage and Mirror is a life-size circus cage designed to fit several people at a time by Copenhagen and Berlin-based artist Jeppe Hein. The architectural installation is equipped with a dangling mirror inside that transforms one's visual perception of the space. As the reflective circular plane rotates, it alters viewers' perspective of their surroundings into a dizzying ocular illusion.
Rotating Mirror in Human Birdcage Alters Perception of Space by artist Jeppe Hein - My Modern Metropolis
Jeppe Hein : The notion of play, central to Jeppe Hein's work, exposes the ambiguity in his approach: is the playful tone of the artist's sculptures and installations not adopted in order to better destabilise the spectator? He makes considerable use of motion sensors. The artist's installations activate, or, on the contrary, vanish: the jet from a sculpture-fountain stops flowing when a spectator approaches, inciting them to move to the centre of the work.

AIR SUPPORTED STRUCTURES CONCEPT NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR by VICTOR LUNDY (1965)
Air Inflated Structures, Structures Concept, Supported Structures, Victor Lundy, New York, Air Supported, Space
Design for the “Space Flowers” for the New York World’s Fair of 1964-65. These air-inflated structures were a brilliant response to the temporary nature of a fair; they provided a unifying element in a cacophonous scene and simultaneously solved the problem of making services (food and restrooms) easily identifiable throughout the fairgrounds; and their beauty transformed itself, from cloud-like balloons during the day to illuminated golden globes at night. Isamu Noguchi's floating fountains. World expo in Osaka. Noguchi has an incredible range as an artist: classic busts, paper light sculptures, functional furniture and interior art, garden design, installation work like this. This piece I admire because manages to address 'the cube' in a way that is really innovative and beautiful.
“Nine floating Fountains” is Isamu Noguchi last work for the world expo in Osaka, Japan. Noguchi took this water tap illusion one step further and developed nine “floating” fountains for the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. Incredible fountains that looks like they are flying.
Floating Fountains, Osaka, Japan. Fountains sprinkle water droplets in air in a manner which make them fly. This amazing and beautiful fountain, designed by Isamu Noguchi, flies itself on the contrary. Isamu Noguchi built 9 floating fountains for the first time in the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. Water tap concept was used in building these fountains

Again, it is not an optical illusion, but it is a good example of how to think different ! Isamu Noguchi last work for the world expo in Osaka, japan is “Nine floating Fountains”, where as he expanded water tap illusion one step further to create incredible fountains that looks like they are flying. Not only is it real, it was built over 40 years ago for the 1970 #Osaka World Expo. This was one of nine fountains Nogucgi designed for the Expo. https://www.facebook.com/JapanAA

Located at Swarovski Crystal Worlds, Austria, this crystal dome is lined with 595 mirrors which give visitors the feeling that they’ve stepped inside a crystal. The multifaceted walls not only refract light which shines in various colors, they also gradually reveal hidden works of art.
The centerpiece of Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens is the Crystal Dome. Built in line with the construction principles of a geodesic dome by Buckminster Fuller, the Crystal Dome with its 595 mirrors gives the viewer the feeling of being inside a crystal. The multi-faceted walls refract sound and light many times over – only gradually revealing hidden works of art.
