The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker - a coming-of-age story set in a time when the Earth is slowing down. Literally. Days are suddenly getting longer and we’re experiencing it through eleven-year-old Julia. Put it on your summer reading list! #books #reading
Book Club, Worth Reading, Reading List, Book Review, Favorite Books, Earth
Heather's new favorite book is this story about an altered earth: somehow, Earth's rate of rotation has slowed. People struggle with their fears as they try to maintain the normalcy. Neighborhoods and friendships fracture after families make conflicting choices in coping with the lengthening and unpredictable days. This work demands inclusion in any "If You Liked The Hunger Games..." list.
At first earth gains a minute here and there, and as the days and nights grow longer, the world begins to fall apart. I think the premise might have been better than the execution, but definitely worth reading.
The Age of Miracles / Karen Thompson Walker. Beautiful and haunting dystopian book about what happens when Earth starts slowing its rotation, told at the same time as a coming-of-age tale of an eleven-year-old. http://libcat.bentley.edu/record=b1343200~S0
New to the Book Club Collection is The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, a luminous, haunting, and unforgettable debut novel about coming of age in California during a time when the Earth’s rate of rotation has slowed and the world is irrevocably altered.
The Age of Miracles - Karen Thompson Walker "On a seemingly ordinary Saturday in a California suburb, Julia and her family awake to discover, along with the rest of the world, that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. The days and nights grow longer and longer, gravity is affected, the environment is thrown into disarray."
The Age of Miracles: A Novel by Karen Thompson Walker, it's about Earth's rotation suddenly slowing and the consequences that ensue. On my must-read list for sure!!

book worth reading.
Bookworm Wednesday: I read this short, young adult novel while on vacation and it lived up to all the hype. The writing was quick, witty and intelligent and the dialogue was impressive. There were a few far fetched plot lines that emphasized the fact that the story was young adult fiction, don't let it bother you! The author believes that fictional stories matter, as do I...(click for more detailed review)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - Romance that begins when two teens meet at a cancer survivors support group. (Available at the UHSL)
This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read! The Fault In Our Stars by John Green is funny, romantic, and heartbreaking all at the same time.
The Fault in Our Stars is one of the most moving novels I have ever read. It's a love story, it's a friendship story, and it's a book about life. And despite what you may have heard it is absolutely not a cancer book. Yes characters in the book have cancer but it isn't a book only about that. It is so much more than that. John Greene does one hell of a job at writing one of my favorite YA love stories. -BB

Let's get over the sap and get real. bell hooks is a feminist tour de force, and her view of love is self-affirming and logical. This made me rethink what love means to me...and who deserves my love.
All About Love by Bell Hooks, "The word "love" is most often defined as a noun, yet...we would all love to better if we used it as a verb," writes bell hooks as she comes out fighting and on fire in All About Love. Here, at her most provacative and intensely personel, the renowned scholar, cultural critic, and feminist skewers our view of love as romance. In its place she offers a proactive new ethic for a people and a society bereft with lovelessness.
