Dallol Volcano in Danakil Depression, Ethiopia
Volcano Dallol in Northeast Ethiopia. Besides being beautiful, it's claim to fame is it's the lowest land volcano on the planet. Photo by Victoria Rogotneva
Ethiopia… Volcano Dalol by Victoria Rogotneva - Vulcan Dallol — the lowest land volcano on the planet, its muzzle is located on a mark of 45 meters below sea-level. Dallol is known also for the improbable landscapes and the most high mid-annual temperature — near 34°С. Vulcan Dallol is in the lowland of Danakil (Danakil Depression) in the remote area in the northeast of Ethiopia. Dallol is located at top of a layer of chetvertichny deposits including a big field of potash salts.

"This is probably my best find, a gypsum mine in eastern Ukraine. An inconspicuous door led to an underground city with its own traffic, street signs and 20-metre-tall caves," says Yaroslav Segeda.
Eastern Ukraine gypsum mine
Here is something we don’t see everyday: the inside of a gypsum mine located in eastern Ukraine. The photo-op was discovered by Yaroslav Segeda, a Ukraine resident who has a deep history in urban exploring. Segeda can often be found scaling—to dizzying heights—all kinds of buildings and objects, usually without any safety equipment or permission.

Zig-Zag folds - These spectacular folds are at Millook Haven, near Bude, North Cornwall. The rocks are part of the Upper Carboniferous age Crackington Formation, thinly interbedded sandstones and shales, subsequently deformed into zig-zag folds with near horizontal fold axes as a result of the Variscan orogeny (mountain-building) at the end of the Carboniferous.

Tramin / Termeno - Felssturz / Frana / Rock fall - Luftaufnahmen Aerial ...Almost disastrous rock slide . Half of a farmhouse near Bolzano was destroyed, with the walls crumbled to dust and the roof in splinters. A car was badly damaged and a tractor crushed. Amazingly, the tenants on the Freisinger Hof vineyard estate, near Trento in northern Italy, escaped injury.
from BBC: Dramatic pictures have been released by AP showing the destruction wrought by huge boulders that smashed through a farm in Northern Italy after being dislodged by a landslide on 21 January 2014. One massive rock narrowly missed a farm house, but a second giant boulder detached during the landslide stopped behind the house. The family living there was unharmed.

GeoMapApp is an earth science exploration and visualization application that is continually being expanded as part of the Marine Geoscience Data System (MGDS) at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. The application provides direct access to the Global Multi-Resolution Topography (GMRT) compilation that hosts high resolution (~100 m node spacing) bathymetry from multibeam data for ocean areas and ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) and...

GeoMapApp -- “GeoMapApp relies on the internet to access a rich content of information for physical oceanography, paleoclimates, geochemistry, geology, seabed sediment and rock compositions, ocean crust age, spreading rates, bathymetry, and sediment thickness. One can select and view seismic reflection, gravity, magnetic and topographic profiles from tens of millions of kilometers of ocean surveys dating back to the 1960s.”

Folding A layered rock that exhibits bends is said to be folded. The layered rock was at one time uniformly straight but was stressed to develop a series of arches and troughs. A compressive stress compacts horizontal rock layers and forces them to bend vertically, forming fold patterns.

The Geological Time Scale - The Geologic Time Scale is a way scientists understand the timespan of our planet based on empirical and fossil-based evidence. This evidence is used to try and place events in Earth’s history. Many things on our planet, such as the formation of mountains, or the draining of lakes by rivers, take millions of years. The creation of life on earth and the extinction of life on earth has happened many times over. Scientists have documented at least 5 mass extinctions. "
