Appdapted: Apps for the Holiday Season. Check out Snow Doodle and more fun apps to incorporate into your speech session!

The Conversation Coach is designed to help players learn the back and forth flow of normal conversation. Typically, most low and high-tech communication tools only enable one-way conversations.

The app allows you to choose from 6 settings (beach, farm, etc), use a plain colored paper background, or a photo from your camera roll "to bring Play School into your world." After you add characters and other props, you record as you speak and move items around the screen in order to create an animated movie that is saved within the app.

Readability is an add-on for your web browser that allows you to read articles in a "clean view" and to save articles to read later. Readability cleans up the clutter on a web page by removing ads and distracting information so that you are left with the main article content

In the words of Tickle Tap Apps "Doodlecast combines your drawing and voice to create short videos." Check it out in action here:

Social communication is a critical area of need for many children. Social skills are often difficult to teach, and even harder for students to initiate and follow through. I'm always on the lookout for another tool to add in my 'social skills toolbox

This app allows the user to work on writing and spelling at the single word level in a variety of interactive contexts. Writing can be practiced by filling in the blanks, copying, labeling a picture, or writing to dictation.

Here is an interesting way to evaluate a client's posture - try using your iPhone or iPad. Basically what you will do is create an image with a picture of the client and a grid over the picture. With the grid you can measure angles to determine progress.

Are you planning to buy the new iPad when it launches on Friday, or pick up an iPad 2 now that it's cheaper? If so, you might want to think hard about getting an AppleCare+ protection plan. A new study shows that the tablet has gotten more breakable over the past two years. The iPad 2 is 3...

I love books. I often use books in therapy as motivation to have kids reach up to turn a page or do something in order for me to read the next page. I even used a book that one of our OT’s had adapted and made it into a gross motor activity. Thank you to PT Stacy Menz for allowing us to repost this review from her blog, Starfish Therapies!

Falling Stars by Trident Vitality I can see it being used to rev a child’s “engine” up or down depending on what kind of sensory needs they have. It would make a nice metronome-ish background music to keep a client on task. There are probably even some language applications like ‘long’ vs ‘short when making the different vines. Occupational therapists can work on forming letters, copying patterns, etc..

Perfect for iPhone, iTouch, iPad or Android this FREE and easy to use app allows you to turn speech into song.

Drop proof your iPad 2 with Ekto2. The Ekto2 case is a relatively inexpensive, $29.95, alternative to some of ther more expensive and bulkier iPad2 cases. This case is made from a softer silicone material with many air cells and ribs inside that provide cushion and create a "bounce" effect.

This game is suitable for young children to practice copying movement patterns and motor memory. Basically, the child picks a character. That character then performs a simple movement (hop, clap, march or sway). The child then has to repeat what motion the character did. It continues adding motions each round and the child must remember and repeat.

Essentially, what you can do with MadPad is download or create "soundboards" for your iPad or smaller iDevice (there are different versions, MadPad HD is the iPad one, priced at $2.99, the iPhone/iPod version is currently $.99 and adequate even on the iPad

Basically this free app allows you to mark and draw on the iPad with pdf documents. Therefore, if any of you have ordered some of our visual motor electronic books you can now store them on your iPad and have the children practice visual motor skills using the iPad instead of paper.

Story Lines is the old fashion game of ‘telephone’ that has been appified with a pictionary twist to it. Someone selects the word or phrase and then passes the iPad to the next player who in turn has to draw the phrase, they then pass it on to the next player who has to label it.

Painting with Time is a terrific FREE iPad (only) app that allows you to interact with a pre-loaded series of images in order to show the effects of time. For example, Spring Comes to Boston, one of the available "time sequences" can be "painted" with the finger to reveal the changes that take place over the Spring months, at 3, 5, and 7 weeks.

This is a beautiful update by Smarty Ears to Match2Say. It's vibrant and a colorful and fun to play. This app is designed to improve your client's articulation skills through a classic memory style card game.

The app does just what it sounds like. Let's you write on the sides of a die and then just press a button or shake the ipad to roll them. You can make dice for anything!

Quixey makes your search for Apps functional. You do not need to know the specific spelling or even name of the app. What Quixey does that is unique and different from tradtional ’keyword’ searches is that it expands it’s scan of the web to sites, blogs, forums, and even social media to ‘learn’ what apps can do. Quixey then takes all that and crunches the data, figures out the platforms, and makes it searchable.
