Now this is the true expression of the Moon - not a masculine image but a feminine... the Sun is masculine and the moon is aspects of the Triple Goddess in all her phases... Remember: And the Sun loved the Moon so much that each night he died so that she might live... " SELENE [noun] Greek mythology: (Greek Σελήνη – “moon”) an archaic lunar deity and the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. Her equivalent in ancient Roman religion and myth is Luna, Latin for “moon”.
Albert Aublet (1851-1938) French. “The New Moon” becomes a graceful female figure, which forms a crescent in a sky fleeced with clouds, that wreathe in vapors above the pale peaks of the legendary Mountains of the Moon.

La Grande Odalisque 1814, in the Louvre, is one of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres most recognizable paintings. He is classed a Neo-classical Painter and is an important precursor of Modern Art. Check out the elongated pose of this woman. If you look carefully she is actually quite distorted. Now check out Modigliani, Matisse and Picasso to see where they drew inspiration.

The verbiage Jan van Eyck used is what an eyewitness to a legal document would've used, fueling controversy about whether this is a wedding portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and his wife, Giovanna Cenami, or a "power of attorney" painting in which the husband grants legal permission for his wife to act on his behalf during an absence.

Fall of the Rebel Angels - Peter Paul Rubens (1618-1620) In Medieval art Satan and devils are often depicted as monsters, dragons, and beasts. Since the early Renaissance the artists depict the devil as the classical Satyr with horns and hoofs, which signifies that paganism was enemy of the Church. Satan likes to disguise as a monk, or a lord, but betrays himself by a hoof or claw. Satan constantly fights against God over souls of men. The main business of devils is to seduce mankind.

Bruegel’s brilliantly torqued, organic tower looks like a horn made of flesh flaying into muscle. It is bent back and bulging from the weight of its improper task. It is easy to unearth an analogy between the story of the Tower of Babel and the Emperor’s fascination with natural phenomena and human capability in the face of it (from artists to magicians to astrologers), grasping at shadows for godly power.
