Triptych with the Crucifixion - Master of Delft - 1520
Painted on Oak in the Ferdinand Franz Wallraf Collection. The coat of arms on the left inner side of the wind points to the fact that the portayed donors were members of the distinguished Kievit famil of Rotterdam. The panel may have originally been kept not far from the family's burial site in St. Laurenskerk (Groote Kerk) in Rotterdam, from which no other pre-Reformation panels have emerged.

Hans Holbein d. Ä., Bildnis eines Angehörigen der Augsburger Familie Weiss (Portrait of a member of the Weiss family of Augsburg)

Followers of this blog know I have an ongoing fascination with brick stitch embroidery, and used a motif found in Burgundian roof tile as a pattern for one of my embroideries. Last summer we visited the Burgandy region of France, including the medieval walled city of Beause. Oenophiles are familiar with Beaune (and Burgandy) for its excellent wine. We drank as much of it as we could, and also visited the hospice museum (!). L’Hôtel-Dieu was founded in 1443 by Nicholas Rolin and his wife…

Gerard Terborch (Dutch Baroque Era Painter, 1617-1681) Woman Writing a Letter 1655 detail Communicating was not that easy in the 17th century. Writers would pour out their hearts in a letter; hope to keep secret plans & tender emotions private; hand the letter over to a hopefully trustworthy messenger for dispatch; & attempt to wait patiently for a reply. 1520s- Mary of Hungary - The Frock Chick Files
The gown has been dated to the 1520s based on the fabric weave, the style, and probable connection to Mary of Hungary and Louis II. This connection is not yet substantiated by physical, written, or visual evidence outside the aforementioned style and the potential for the garments to have been presented as gifts to the Mariazell shrine by the royal couple while on a pilgrimage around the time of their wedding.
