The Ugly Vegetables by Grace Lin: picture book for 1st-4th grade that tells the story of a young Chinese girl who feels different from her American friends because of the strange vegetables her mother grows in their garden. When the vegetables ripen, her mother makes a soup for the whole neighborhood to enjoy and the girl learns to value her culture

But they harvest the ugly vegetables into a delicious soup that all the neighbors love. Nevertheless, mother assures her that
