I have no idea who this is (although I think we was ID's in the old Shinsengumi email group). Anyway, if someone told me this guy was Emmi's brother who traveled back in time, too, I would totally believe it. I really need to do that sequel.....
The seated gentleman is the actual Isami Kondo, the leader of the Shinsengumi. The young man behind him may or may not be the actual Okita Souji who was Kondo's friend, pupil and one of the best swordsmen of the era.
This is Hijikata from the NHK network's year long taiga drama Shinsengumi! That series was great, the casting perfection and started the "I must write about this" urge,
I imagined a brass framed mirror something like this that grabbed Emmi's attention at the rummage sale.
While reading and watching everything I could after discovering Kenshin. I began learning about the Shinsengumi and made some awesome fellow history nerd/anime/ J-drama/Samurai film loving friends along the way.
